Song of the Soul - Songwriting Workshop

All human beings share a deeply rooted desire to communicate the wonder, pain, love and loss that make up the human condition, but not all know how to do it.  Singer/songwriter Cris Williamson’s workshop is a journey of risk and spirit as we struggle to translate feelings into lyrical, musical forms.  Using observation, imitation, and imagination, we will take this journey together and write songs of our souls.

You do not have to be a musician or a writer.  You do have to be a seeker.  We will undergo a passage together, using individual and group exercises, searching for our own authentic voices.  We will emphasize lyrics and lyrical writing, factual and abstract, wild and structured.  We will conclude with at least one group song, and leave hopefully feeling more confident and expressive.  Depending on the structure, one-on-one time with Cris is a possibility.

Bring the tools that work for you: writing book, laptop, pencils or pens. The tools I require you to bring are: a dictionary, a rhyming dictionary, and a thesaurus, as well as a small tape recorder and several blank tapes.  Bring an instrument if you wish.  A keyboard is generally provided.

Cris Williamson is ”about the best writer and interpretive singer around,” said Bonnie Raitt.  She is also an environmentalist and humanitarian.  The depth, beauty and power of her music soothes, enlightens, inspires and heals audiences around the world, and reveal her as a powerful teacher and spirit-raiser. A pioneer of women’s music, she helped pave the way for today’s independent women artists.
